Bayside Report

At the October meeting, three members introduced utility programs thought to be of interest to the members.

Clive Chatfield demonstrated Gadwins printscreen utility which can be down loaded from www.gadwin.com/printscreen.  Gadwin allows one to create a screen shot which can be printed or saved. The program provides several hot key combos for those of us who dont have a printscreen key on our keyboards.

Six different image formats are available with all the customization capabilities that one could ask for. The inbuilt printscreen in Windows only allows capture and placement on the clipboard and a separate program is needed for editing.

The October disk has a printscreen utility called Screenshot Captor which may be of interest for comparison.

Kathy Rouse introduced the members to PassKeeper, a windows utility that allows you to keep a list of accounts with user names, pass words and notes in an encrypted file. In fact you can store anything you like in PassKeeper up to 120 characters in the notes section.

Many services on the web require you to register and supply a user name and password. Unless you use the same user name and password for every thing, you need to record them some where. What better place than in an encrypted file safe from prying eyes and the hacker's keystrokes. PassKeeper is free and can be down loaded from www.passkeeper.com.

Graham Ackland told us about SIW, System Information for Windows, a utility that performs configuration analysis and diagnostics of your computer properties and settings. Detailed specifications for your software, hardware and network connections are provided.

SIW is a stand alone tool that does not require installation on your computer. The program can be run directly from a USB flash drive. SIW can be down loaded from www.gtopala.com.
